I offer classes in smocking, embroidery, heirloom sewing, and silk ribbon embroidery.   All class fees include materials unless kit fees are noted.  Classes change monthly so check to see if there is something you’re interested in.   I will always try to accommodate customers if they are asking for a certain class or a technique they would like to learn.

Colin:    This stitch-a-long project is from the Crewel Birds book by Hazel Blomkamp.    This fabulous crewel embroidery project of a colorful rooster embellished with cotton flosses, perle cotton,  and beads is stitched on antique white fine linen.  It is sure to be a great learning experience of many exciting crewel embroidery stitches.    Hazel’s work is outstanding and so different from your ordinary crewel work projects.  I am so excited to do this project. This class will last a few months and meet on Tuesdays.   11/3, 11/10. 11/17  11-2.   You will need her book for instructions which I have in stock and available to purchase.   The kit and class cost is $85.00.   All floss, fabric and beads are included.  She also calls for stretcher bars.  17″ square which are available for sale.

 

 

 

 

 

Beginner Smocking:   In this class you will learn basic smocking stitches on a pleated insert.    The stitches covered are cable, lazy daisy, trellis, flowerette, French knot, outline and stem stitch.    We will cover how to read a graph for smocking and some tips on construction and pleating.   At the end of the class you will leave with a new inset and a smocking plate that you can smock and later insert into a garment.  Saturday 11/14  11-3.   $35.00.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heirloom Sewing Basics:   In this notebook class you will learn the basics of heirloom sewing.   You will learn about different fabrics, laces and techniques.   Using your own machine you will stitch samples to put in your notebook noting your machine settings.   French seams, Lace application, use of entredeux, pintucks, and puffing are covered.   This is a class that you will refer back to your notes while doing heirloom sewing in the future.  Saturday 11/21  11-3  $35.00.   Bring all your feet and machine.   All other supplies provided.

 

The Mary De Jumper:   This is a classic style jumper that can be smocked or embellished with machine embroidery or applique.    The back of the dress overlaps with a two button closure.  This has long been a favorite jumper or sundress for little girls and is easy to make. You will learn how to make piping and pipe the neckline and armholes, make changes to the pattern to accommodate a applique, different hem finishes.  It works up beautifully in corduroy or can be made of any fabric and color of your choosing.  Size 1 – 8.  2 weeks.  11/11 and 11/18.     $60.00.

 

 

 

 

 

Swan Lake:   This will be a stitch a long beginning on December 1st.  This design is from the latest Inspirations #132 by Anna Scott.  This is an ornament measuring 3 3/8″.   It is stitched in silk and metallic threads and beaded.    It should be a fun and quick project.    Please let me know if you are interested so I will have enough supplies ordered.   12/1,  12/8, 12/15, 12/22.  11-2  $75.00.  All supplies included.
